If you want to understand Lean Goblin, you have to go back to his dad's record collection. Growing up surrounded by the grooves of Zapp and Roger, Bootsy Collins, Earth Wind and Fire, Prince, Michael Jackson, The Isley Brothers, and Billy Ocean, the producer now known as Lean Goblin was not just a kid listening to music. He was studying it. That early education in classic 70s and 80s Funk, blended with a steady diet of 90s Hip Hop, RnB, and Gospel artists like Kirk Franklin, laid the foundation for a creative voice that is now turning heads in the independent music world.

The Sound That Started Everything

Most producers can point to a single moment when music clicked. For Lean Goblin, it was the instrumentals. While other kids sang along to the lyrics, he was locked in on the layers underneath. The basslines. The drum patterns. The way a chord change could shift the entire mood of a room.

"I was always drawn to the instrumentals," he says.

That instinct to listen deeper became the engine behind his production style. By pulling from multiple genres at once, Funk, Hip Hop, RnB, and Gospel, Lean Goblin developed an ear that refuses to stay in one lane. And that refusal would eventually become his greatest strength.

Going All In During the Pandemic

Lean Goblin officially started his career in 2019, but it was the 2020 pandemic that changed everything. When the world shut down and quarantine forced stillness on most people, he did the opposite. He got to work.

"The 2020 pandemic is when I started focusing more and taking it seriously during quarantine."

For many artists, the lockdown was a pause. For Lean Goblin, it was an ignition. He used the time to sharpen his craft, build his catalog, and start putting out music with intention. What began as a passion shaped by his father's record collection was now becoming a real career.

How He Stays Sharp as a Producer

Staying motivated in a crowded music industry is its own challenge. Lean Goblin's approach is straightforward but effective: keep listening.

"As a music producer I stay motivated by listening to different artists and what sounds they bring to the music table."

By staying plugged into new music across different genres, he constantly collects new sonic ideas. That approach also makes him a versatile collaborator. When an artist comes to him needing a beat in a specific style, whether it is trap, soul, or something in between, he has the references and the range to deliver.

Collabs, Credits, and the Mozzy Record

Lean Goblin has produced for a wide range of artists, and his beats have been making the rounds. But the collaboration that stands out most so far is a record he produced featuring Mozzy, the Sacramento rapper known for his raw, street-level storytelling. The track, "Different Type Of N*ggas", brought together Lean Goblin's production instincts with one of West Coast rap's most respected voices.

It is the kind of credit that signals credibility in the industry, and it is just the beginning.

Breaking Out of One Genre on Purpose

One of the most interesting things about where Lean Goblin is headed is his intentional rejection of genre boundaries. Rather than building a brand around one specific sound, he is spreading out.

"Right now I'm just working on different genres of music. I don't want to be stuck just in one. I'm putting my hands into Rock, country, rap, rnb, etc."

That kind of range is rare, and it takes confidence to pursue it. Most artists and producers are told to niche down, to find their lane and stay in it. Lean Goblin is betting that the artists willing to move across lanes are the ones who last.

The RnB Album and the Single "H2O (Wataa)"

While he is exploring everything from Rock to Country, Lean Goblin also has a focused project in the works. He is currently developing an RnB album, and the lead single "H2O (Wataa)" is out now and serving as a preview of what is coming.

"What I can say about this project is that it will be vibey with catchy lyrics just like H2O."

If the single is any indication, the project is shaping up to be exactly that. Smooth, hooky, and built with the same attention to feel and texture that has defined his production style since day one.

Where to Follow Lean Goblin

Lean Goblin is active and building. If you want to keep up with his latest releases, beats, and what comes next, here is where to find him:
